Hello – this is Platzer

Platzer is a leading real estate company focused on commercial properties. We operate exclusively in Gothenburg. Nowhere else. Quite simply because we want to focus all our energy on what we do best – creating a better city for our tenants, their employees, and not least the people of Gothenburg.
With our vision, we aim even higher: to make Gothenburg the best city in Europe to work in.
We own and develop 78 properties with a total lettable area of one million square metres, valued at SEK 30 billion. We prioritise strong relationships with our tenants and offer a service characterised by proximity and commitment.

Our business concept

A business concept defines what a company is built on – what it should excel at and where it focuses its efforts.

Our business concept:
Platzer creates long-term value by owning and developing commercial properties in Gothenburg.

Our properties

Our portfolio is concentrated in selected focus areas where the city is growing – both in key public transport hubs prioritised by the city and in development areas we have identified.

This concentration strategy means a clear focus on areas where we aim to be the leading player.

Today, Platzer holds a leading position in Lilla Bommen, Gårda, Gamlestaden, Arendal and Södra Änggården.

Area and urban development

As an area and urban developer, Platzer works long-term to develop places in Gothenburg. We take responsibility for both the whole and the long-term context – from existing properties to new developments.

In collaboration with the city, tenants and other stakeholders, we create environments where people and businesses can function and grow over time.

Our journey to becoming a leading real estate company in Gothenburg

Platzer has long and solid experience as both a construction and real estate company. Today, we are one of the largest and leading commercial real estate companies in Gothenburg.

We aim to be the best at Gothenburg – and for Gothenburg. This is our journey towards becoming the best version of Platzer in Gothenburg.

Our history

1960s, 70s and 80s

Platzer Bygg AB was founded in 1969, initially focused on residential construction in response to the Swedish “Million Programme” of the 1960s. During the 1970s and 1980s, the company grew to become one of Sweden’s largest construction firms, employing more than 1,000 people.

As residential construction declined significantly, and competition increased with growing price pressure, the company shifted its strategy in the 1980s. This transformation was extensive, expanding the business to include finance and real estate operations.

In 1983, Platzer’s management, together with Investment AB D. Carnegie & Co, acquired all shares in the company. The new owners then carried out a share issue, and the company was listed on the OTC market in April 1983. By the late 1980s, operations were concentrated in Stockholm and Gothenburg.

1990s

In 1991, Platzer Bygg AB was listed on the Stockholm Stock Exchange A1 list.

During the 1990s, Sweden experienced a deep recession with high interest rates and weak demand for both residential and commercial properties. This downturn – the longest in the construction sector during the 20th century – also affected Platzer.

The Platzer Group underwent a major restructuring, transitioning from a competitive construction company operating across large parts of Sweden into a professional real estate company focused on Gothenburg and Western Sweden.

After nearly 30 years as a construction company, the entire construction business was divested in 1998. Management and administration were relocated from Stockholm to Gothenburg, and Platzer Bygg AB changed its name to Platzer Fastigheter AB.

2000s

After being publicly listed since 1983, Platzer was delisted from the stock exchange in 2001 following a hostile bid from Fastighets AB Tornet, becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the Ernström Group. The strategy was to geographically concentrate the property portfolio in Greater Gothenburg.

Platzer in its current form was established in 2008 through a property transaction between the Ernström Group, Brinova and Länsförsäkringar Göteborg och Bohuslän. The ambition was to create a competitive real estate company that would become a significant player in the Gothenburg property market. The transaction, which included 44 properties totaling just over 280,000 square metres, marked a new starting point for Platzer as a commercial real estate company. P-G Persson was appointed CEO.

2010s

In December 2013, Platzer Fastigheter Holding (publ) was listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm, Mid Cap. Between 2012 and 2015, property assets doubled and net asset value per share increased by 60%. Development projects became an increasingly important part of our growth, and we strengthened our position in urban development.

In 2016, we completed our largest acquisition to date with the purchase of AB Volvo’s properties in Arendal, Torslanda and Säve. The transaction, partly financed through a rights issue, included 335,000 square metres of lettable area and 3,600,000 square metres of land. This marked an expansion of the portfolio into logistics properties.

In 2017, we sold future residential development rights in Södra Änggården (Högsbo) with a value of SEK 1.7 billion. The transaction is conditional upon the detailed development plan gaining legal force. The area is undergoing a major transformation from an industrial area into a dense and vibrant urban district.

2020s

With a clear focus on the Gothenburg region, Platzer is today one of the leading players in the commercial real estate market. We own and develop 78 properties with a total area of approximately one million square metres and a property value of around SEK 30 billion.

In 2023, Johanna Hult Rentsch took office as CEO of Platzer, bringing extensive experience in property development and senior roles within the industry.

With the vision of making Gothenburg the best city in Europe to work in, we create stable growth and business value through long-term property management and leasing, development projects and urban development, as well as strategic acquisitions and divestments.
